Making a Donation

Our Community Foundation offers several ways to give and reach your charitable goals.  We work with you to create a plan that will maximize the benefit of your gift and minimize your tax liability.  We offer flexibility that allows all donors with different ideas and interests to give, with the security of knowing the funds were used as they intended.

We believe all gifts, large or small, can have a lasting impact in LaGrange County.  With that in mind, there are a number of ways to donate to The LaGrange County Community Foundation that are tax deductible. All of them can create change for the better.

Cash

A cash gift, the most common means of giving, is a simple way to meet your charitable goals.  A cash gift includes cash, check or credit card donations and can be made by mailing the donation to the community foundation or by bringing the gift to our office.

Securities

The contribution of securities is attractive to people who have held stocks or bonds for a long period of time and have had significant appreciation.  The securities can be transferred directly from your investment account to our investment manager.  With this means of giving, you can give a significantly larger gift for only the original cost of the securities, while avoiding capital gains tax from a liquidation of the same securities.

Life Insurance

There are several ways to give through life insurance. You may make a cash gift and ask the Foundation to use the contribution to purchase a policy on your life or you can make the community foundation the beneficiary of an already-owned policy.  The insurance policy can be setup to distribute dividends directly to the community foundation or, to render the full policy amount as a gift, make the foundation the beneficiary of the policy. In addition to estate tax benefits, this giving strategy also provides an additional income tax deduction.

Charitable Gift Annuity

Charitable gift annuity provides lifetime income to the beneficiary and immediate tax benefits to the donor.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

Charitable remainder trusts offers multiple advantages for donors. You will receive an immediate tax deduction, avoid estate taxes and create lifetime income for you or someone you select.

Charitable Lead Trusts

A donor may name the community foundation and other charities as beneficiaries of a specified percentage of income from a trust for a set number of years. Ultimately, the bulk of the trust reverts to other named beneficiaries, such as children or grandchildren.
